Little Snitch Reviews
After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.7 'Lion' I've encountered several kernel panics when working on C projects. Building seems to work fine, but approximately 1 of 10 runs results in a system crash (even with very small projects).
A firewall protects your computer against unwanted guests from the Internet. But who protects your private data from being sent out? Little Snitch does!
Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts. This reliably prevents private data from being sent out without your knowledge. Little Snitch for Mac runs inconspicuously in the background and it can also detect network related activity of viruses, trojans and other malware.
Features and Highlights
Silent Mode – Decide Later
There are times where you don’t want to get interrupted by any network related notifications. With Silent Mode you can quickly choose to silence all connection warnings for a while. You can then later review the Silent Mode Log to define permanent rules for connection attempts that occurred during that time.
Research Assistant
Have you ever wondered why a process you’ve never heard of before suddenly wants to connect to some server on the Internet? The Research Assistant helps you to find the answer. It only takes one click on the research button to anonymously request additional information for the current connection from the Research Assistant Database.
Automatic Profile Switching
Rules can be arranged in different profiles like “Home”, “Office” or “Mobile Internet”. This allows you to use different sets of filter rules depending on the network you are currently connected to. Profiles can be activated either manually from the status menu, or automatically, whenever you join a network that’s associated with one of your profiles.
Firewall for incoming connections
Little Snitch for macOS not only reveals any outgoing network connection attempt to make sure that sensitive data doesn’t leave your computer without your consent. The inbound firewall in LittleSnitch provides you with the same level of control for incoming connections.
Note: Requires 64-bit processor. The demo runs for three hours, and it can be restarted as often as you like. The Network Monitor expires after 30 days.

yesterday I upgraded to 10.7 MacOSX Lion. After that a few programs didn't work anymore. One of them was LittleSnitch. Therefore I downloaded the newest version, startet it and hit the 'uninstall LittleSnitch' butten, to get rid of the old version. I thought of installing it new afterwards, but ..
.. after the recommanded restart, the MAC didn't boot over! But first some more details:
1) I'm using the new FileVault 2 (full disk encryption). Therefore I have to tipe in my password at the very beginning of the booting process (on EFI-Screen) ..
2) I have all updates for MacOSX etc.
3) The problems can hardly be caused by another piece of software, because I didn't touched anything else then Little Snitch between the two latest rebooting procedures ..
The problem symptomes: Mac askes for my password (see above) right after pushing the start-button. After that, it has a short loading period of about 20 sek, then there apears some kind of a loading bar below the Apple-Logo (I have only see something like that doring EFI-Updates) and than it shuts down .. and thats it! I'm not able to do anything!
I tried starting from the new Recovery Mode and make a 'Disk Repair' and all the stuff you usually do, but nothing helps. I think it is a bad mixture of FileVault and messing around with Boot-Cache etc. ..
The good news is, that the recovery mode was able to unlock the FileVauls HDD, so I'm copying all my stuff to an external HDD right now and start with a new installation from scratch ..
But I'm very certain, this problem has something to do with littlesnitch .. maybe the uninstallation killed some important boot-files or whatever .. so I thing, that this should definitifly be checked!!!
If anyone expirienced a similar problem and has any ideas how to fix it without 'doing it all new from scratch', I would be REALY happy, if this person would send me a PN or mail or posting here or whatever! Even Mail-in-a-bottle would be better then nothing!!!
Thanks anyways to all of you for reading this!
Best wishes,
Erikk
